Heyo!
Okay, I’m not gonna lie, I’m feeling very lazy and don’t feel like giving a
day by day update of all that happened this past week. But I will give a
few of the highlights that made me happy! I’m sorry that I’m not doing all
that I can to help you all out with everything, but I just don’t feel up to
typing it all out this week! So again I apologize for that!
MONDAY: Went to shiprock then to Teec nos pos to see a waterfall, then
accidentally locked the keys in the truck back at shiprock. Thus, spent the
night at shiprock. -_-
TUESDAY: Got a 6-7 inch cut on my bicep!
Throughout the rest of the week we found 7 new investigators! One of them,
Bradford Benally, has a baptismal date for the 12th of May! He is really
excited and he honestly is going to be amazing to teach! He already knows
what the spirit feels like and he is super ready for the gospel and
baptism.
And yesterday we went to the temple! SO FREAKING HAPPY! :D
I’m really sorry, the heat here is just really taking a toll on my activity
of motion! It’s about 90 outside and inside about 95 cause there is no air
conditioning!
I love you all and if you want a deeper explination on something let me
know!

This week!
This weeks letter will be quite short because…well i forgot to write
everything down in my journal, and I have a terrible memory. >_
Oh hey there!
I don’t know how long this one will be. Last week I said it would be short
and it went on for 4 days. So. I’ll just not say anything about the length
today as I don’t know what all I want to talk about! Yeah. Feels like a
roller coaster ride…ooooo ooo ooo! Or even better! The lady at the
carousel who always says, “Here we gooooo!” all non enthusiastically and
kinda monotonely. Man that chicks a jerk now that I think about it. >_>
Anywhay’s I got off topic for just a bit. SO let me steer back into
reality/awesome time of awesome. I brought my journal with me this time to
remember some of the things I did. Otherwise I would be all over the place
trying to think about what has happened or what will happen…or what’s
happening. Couldn’t leave the present out of that.
TUESDAY: Tuesday Elder Ochoa and I went on exchanges with the district
leader and his companion. They are the Elders who cover the Spanish branch
in our area. Thankfully I didn’t speak spanish! But I did have to take the
district leader with me and navigate around MY area. Big responsibility
right there! If I got lost I would have looked like a dufus! But thankfully
it went great and I’ll share some reasoning why! We started off the day by
doing some service for Bro. Grange, (Mom I’ll have him write home to you
he’s great and really helps us elders out here!). After a few hours of
helping him out, we went to do some e-mailing, I had already done mine but
Elder Questinberg hadn’t yet, so I just read some of the letters that I had
received that day. My goodness I love getting letters! I don’t really get
home sick at all, but it is very motivating to hear from home and the
encouragement that you all give. After that we went out tracting in an area
that I know hadn’t been hit. We got a few potentials and I loved being able
to talk with them and share with them a little of what we have to offer.
One guy, his name was Chris, and I’ll talk about him a little later. One
other funny thing happened as we were riding back home, we were in a dark
alley, and a black dog just started barking, and I freaked out! Elder Q
laughed at me in jest, then out of nowhere this guy pops up and says,
“Watch out for dogs in a dark alley boys,” and Elder Q later told me HE
freaked out when the guy started talking. He told us he was waiting for his
buddy so they could watch the second night of dancing with the stars, we
all laughed, but we had a great conversation with him. He brought up the
Word of Wisdom, The law of Chastity, and so many other gospel principles,
and we thought, if only we said a prayer it would have been a lesson. After
Dinner, we had an appointment with a less active and a recent convert. The
less active just went perfectly, Bro. Farnsworth came with us and we were
all so in tune with the spirit at both appointments, the answers and
scriptures that we shared, I KNEW that both people felt the spirit we had
and it was a great growing experience for me.
Wednesday/Thursday: I didn’t write much in my journal about these two days
other then they sucked. My literal words. I go on to say, However, we do
have a new investigator and a baptismal date set from these two days. But
other then that, our days were just kinda…bleh. I’m here to tell you that
PLANNING is everything for a missionary. The time that you study is crucial
to having the spirit with you and being able to teach WITH the spirit.
Without that you are just a person walking around trying to share your
opinion.
Friday: Friday was a lot better, me and my companion had a good long talk
about how we could both improve and do a lot better within the days and
doing the work. One thing that I remember is we tried contacting those
people we tracted into a few days ago and we managed to run into Chris’s
girlfriend, (the Chris I mentioned earlier) and she is actually a less
active! So now we heard from her that she knows he would be interested in
hearing more and that she would like us to come and share more with them
both! So we are hopefull with that and we really are praying that
everything goes well when it comes time to actually teach them.
Saturday: Not the best day, we did a lot of service that really helped me
out. I love doing service and it really makes me happy to help others out.
However I do wish I could share more and MORE of the gospel that I know to
be true.
Sunday: Sundays are always the best because I get to really DELVE into the
scriptures and I get a LOT of understanding from them. It’s great to see
how much I can understand in a different setting then home. Going to church
really does help out. We saw a less active family that we visited the first
week I was here! He hasn’t been to church in months so it was AMAZING to
see him there at sacrament meeting! I was so happy to see a little of the
fruits of my labor. After 3rd ward was over we had lunch at home then
walked back for 1st ward. We had 2 investigators come to church and they
are the BEST! Casey who I talked about last week, and Gena who is just the
sweetest person ever! So happy to see them both coming to church and
looking for that light so they can continue to progress. After church we
went and gave a blessing at an old folks home for a sister in the ward, and
we sang in the choir. I have missed singing SOOOO stupid much!
And here we are onto today! We do all our e-mailing at the public liberary,
and right now there must be a 65+ year old lady next to me. She. Doesn’t.
Know. ANYTHING. About computers. It’s really just annoying ME hearing her
ask all these questions to the guy working here. I feel his pain. V_V But
meh she seems nice enough. Ish.
But alas it is time for me to leave, people to see and teach! I love you
all very much and I cannot thank you enough for letters, prayers and any
type of love that I receive! Without your support I don’t know how I would
be able to do this! Well, I do know, but this just makes it a little bit
easier. Ya know?
I love you all very much and have a great week!
Elder H. Dean
Random quotes from me of the week!
“If ye have faith enough to see an angel of God, then with that faith, why
would ye need to see an angel?”
“When we act faster upon what we know is right, not giving ourselves time
to think negatively, our thoughts begin to truely mean what we say and do.”

WHAAAAT’S Up?
HOla, como esta? No hablar espaniol.
I think that was spanish.
Hello everyone! Week two in the field has come and gone and ALSO my first
month of my mission is officially over! Only 23 more and I cannot WAIT to
dive head first into the work!
I don’t have much time so today’s letter won’t be too long today! But I
will definitely try to fit in as much as possible for this past week.
The day after I sent my last letter I actually I actually REALLY hurt my
neck while I was playing around on preperation day, so my neck, I could
hardly move it all night. I said a prayer asking for help and the first
thing I heard when I said amen, were the words, “Priesthood Blessing.” I
didn’t act on it immedietly because I was dead tired, but the following
morning, I did get a blessing and how thankful was I! A blessing as we
know, only works on the amont of faith that one has. I can tell you this
that I KNOW that for a fact! As of now it has been a week and my neck still
hurts a very little bit, but I am so thankful for that blessing because
without it I know that I wouldn’t have been able to do hardly anything this
week.
Tuesday morning however we built a snowman! I forgot my camera but I will
send a picture next week! It was 7 feet tall! My companion, Elder Ochoa, is
from Texas so he has never ever made a snowman before! I helped him out
pretty well! We did our best to liken it to missionary work though. Just
like a snowflake by itself isn’t very strong, the same can be said for an
investigator, recent convert, or less active. And only by putting those
snowflakes together, can they become strong members part of a larger work!
It’s so nice to know I have members in the wards where I am serving that
are great people and love to help out and love missionary work.
Wednesday…nothing really cool happened. It actually kinda was….meh. A
usual day as a missionary. But thursday get’s better.
Thursday we had district meeting and I was asked to speak on obedience, and
it was a pretty good lesson, about 15 minutes long, and I brought up some
things people wouldn’t have really noticed. The day went on and I got a
letter from my cousin, Elder Greear, and he said, and I quote “I hope you
are enjoying the work. If you aren’t, change your attitude and get with
it.” Seriously made the day right there. But later, as we were walking to
an appointment, we had change thrown at us while I man shouted, “Get a
job.” It’s odd how some people are just…stupid. Later whilest tracting in
a neighborhood of all retired older people, they were mean, Elder Ochoa
went biblical on em. At the very edge of the street he put his arms out
wide and shouts, “I cry repentence unto all ye who have rejected our glad
message. Our offer still stands if you decide to repent, and be baptized.”
THAT made the day even BETTER!
I can’t really remember the weekend, but sunday I spoke in church, and
basically gave my farewell talk again. Today though, the mission was
allowed to go to the Monticello Temple! I was so excited to be able to go!
Elder Ochoa hadn’t gone in 2 years so he was BEYOND stoked! It was a very
good day and I am proud to be a missionary of the lord.
Quick info on one of our investigators, Her name is Casey and she is
GOLDEN. She reads the scriptures every day, she prays every day, goes to
church every sunday and stays ALL THREE HOURS, she even defended the LDS
church against her father! She is 24 and has an adorable little son! She
hasn’t set a baptismal date, but she is going along perfectly well that I
KNOW she will be baptized.
Friends and Family, loved ones and…everyone else. I know that this chruch
is true, and that the Gospel of Jesus Christ HAS been restored to the earth
through a prophet. I find comfort in those words and I find comfort in that
feeling. That feeling of warmth I get on these cold days. I know that the
church will bless everyone’s lives if they are willing to follow the
standards set forth by the Lord Jesus Christ. I know it because I have felt
and SEEN those blessings in others and in my own family. I cannot stress
how important it is to at least speak with missionaries, even if you are a
member. They need help too.
I love you all very much. I pray for you all and wish you the best.
Everyone remember to keep your eyes up and a smile on.
Love,
Elder Dean.
P.S. Write me some letters my friends! I miss hearing from you all!

Two weeks gone by!?!?
Holy moley boys and girls, time is going by fast. Ish.
Here I am, November 7th, been in the field for a WEEK now and golly gee
whitaker am I tired! I honestly can’t remember what I wrote to everyone in
my last e mail, so I guess I’ll just have to…fill you in on everything
else. I guess.
Whelp, here goes!
My last week at the MTC went by soooo fast and I was so proud of me and my
MTC companion, we did a really good job with our “investigators” and we
were really proud of how well we taught them. However, it is nothing like
the real world, (and I’ll get to that later) it was still good to see them
pray, grow and feel the spirit. The last days at the MTC really did go by
quickly, I was quite amazed at it really. I got a lot of pictures with
friends from there, but I don’t have my camera with me, but I’ll bring it
next week and show everyone a few of my friends I met at the MTC.
Alas, comes Monday, Depature day. We had to be up by 3:30, on the bus to
Salt Lake City by 4:00. My goodness I was TIRED. like it really was just
holy cow tired. BUT, I love flying on planes! Anyway, we got to Pheonix
around…okay I don’t actually know because Arizona doesn’t do the daylight
savings, so we flew…it was weird to say the least. While in the airport I
tried calling home, but couldn’t get through! So I had to just kinda sit
and wallow. Thankfully a Cinnabbon in the airport made me happy, and then I
thought of Jim Gaffigan’s jokes about Cinnabbon, then I was laughing pretty
good.
Then we flew to Durango, Colorado! The plane was substantially smaller and
so was the airport! We actually flew over the grand canyon, and I got some
good pictures of that, thankfully I had a window seat. When we arrived in
Durango, it was so weird to be in such a small place and I could just feel
it. I just felt like my “city boy” charm was kuh-put. We met the Mission
president and then went to his house for lunch and later dinner. It wasn’t
anything special, but it was good.
Tuesday morning we had to part with our friends we had made and had to come
out onto the REAL mission. My companion’s name is Elder Ochoa, which is
spanish for Wolf. Pretty cool huh? Anyway he is on his last transfer, so
they say that he is my dad and I am going to “kill” him. They have their
own lingo and it freaks me out. Although, Elder Ochoa is really the best
missionary. Every area he has left has been golden once he was finished
with it. I’m really happy that I have him as a trainer, he says I’m
learning quick, and I do really. But that’s natural.
I’ll try to share more next week, but my time is limited!
Family, friends, I love you all so much. I can feel your support and
prayers….
My time on the computer just got extended. Boss.
So now I can share some more stories!
I’m serving in the Farmington Stake, in the 1st and 3rd ward, and the
people are honestly just DELIGHTFUL! One family in particular is the Grange
family. Bro. Grange is so helpful and so nice, and Sis. Grange just makes
me so happy. They really do help us out with the work here.
I’ve met a lot of families as well and I can’t honestly remember them all.
